    Boas!

    É? Ainda bem.

EA releases official Origin name change service

Finally, some good news after all the heartbreak we’ve had to endure with EA’s Origin, Battlelog, lack of multiple soldiers etc. Now EA has released an online service where users can change their Origin username. It still looks like we’ll be able to have only one soldier in Battlefield 3, so chose your username wisely. Previously, players could update their name through an iOS app. Either that, or write to EA support, which, given its sheer incompetence, didn’t seem to provide much help to many players.

You can change your Origin username here.

Acho que essa limitação é só para jogadores hardcore, aka jogadores PC.

Origin third-party support begins with Saints Row, Batman

EA's Origin store will start offering third-party games next month. Electronic Arts had said that "forward-looking" publishers were looking to jump on board--those publishers include Warner Bros., THQ, and Capcom. On November 15th, Origin will add Batman: Arkham City and Saints Row: The Third, with more titles coming from these publishers "in the coming months."
E assistimos à fracturação da comunidade PC-gaming em vários serviços...

Não é por nada mas parece-me que o Steam tem preços bem mais competitivos.

EA Forum Bans Are STILL Affecting Games
    ...
We are receiving information from a number of gamers who have received forum bans for a variety of reasons who are finding they’re unable to play Battlefield 3 (or indeed any other game tied into the EA user account), and worse, when they try to contact EA for help sorting this out, they are either ignored or told it’s tough. So what’s going on?

    EA’s Unwieldy Banhammer: EA Responds
    ...
I’ve responded to all involved at EA asking if we can just get a clear reply explaining what their current policy is. If it is the case, right now, that misbehaving on forums affects your Origin gaming, then we desperately want to be able to warn you about that, not least because we assured you the opposite eight months ago when EA told us that. I think it would be safe to say that were this EA’s current policy, we would strongly advise our readers to go nowhere near EA’s forums for fear of an errant ban directly affecting their ability to play games they have purchased. For now, until I receive clarification, I think we have to assume this is the case.

It’s also worth noting that those forum violations are pretty stringent – if quoting another’s use of “e-peen” is enough to see a ban (and in this guy’s case, a permanent ban!) then they need to make their guidelines a lot clearer.

    Dear Origin, You Stink
    ...
Remember that Steam entered an empty room in 2004. Yes, their early days were a mess of bugs and frustration. They could afford it, because they weren't facing a mature and deeply entrenched rival in the marketplace. Your customers - the people who buy EA games on the PC - already have Steam accounts. Some of them have libraries of dozens or even hundreds of games. They have friends lists and achievements and Steam is already a part of their computer. They don't see a need for you.
    ...
E, executar jogos através dum browser? Esqueçam lá isso. Perdi duas sessões de 20+ tabs no Firefox por causa da bosta do Battlelog.

Valve games now available through Impulse

EA has received a lot of well-deserved flak for making certain new games exclusive to its Origin distribution service. All PC releases should be available on Steam, proponents of the competing service say. I'm inclined to agree, as are most of our readers.

Valve hasn't been in a particularly strong position to complain, though. For years, its own titles have only been available in downloadable form via Steam. That's now changed, with GameStop announcing that a collection of Valve games are now available via its Impulse service. Portal 2, both Left 4 Dead games, The Orange Box, and the complete Half-Life collection can now be purchased via the competing distribution platform. Well, I wouldn't call Impulse competitive with Steam, but you know.

Although those games are all available for purchase through Impulse now, you'll still need the Steam client to install and play them. We should be surprised; even the DVD versions of Valve games sold in retail locations require Steam. This is just another example of how Steam is more like Origin and Games for Windows Live than some folks would like to admit. That said, Steam does look a whole lot better than the alternatives.

While it's nice to see Valve cooperating with other distribution platforms, I can't help but wonder if future Valve games will be available on Impulse right at launch. If Steam is required anyway, there doesn't seem to be much point in buying through Impulse. Right now, the service actually charges five to nine cents more than Steam for all the Valve games it offers. Thanks to Rock, Paper, Shotgun for the tip.
