Transparent Solar Technology Represents Wave of the Future

According to researchers at Michigan State University see-through solar materials are the wave of the future. The thin, plastic-like material can be used on buildings, car windows, cell phones or other devices with a clear surface. Right now they aren't as efficient as traditional solar panels but they can get close and be applied to a lot more surface area. I expect one day every window in this country will be utilizing this technology and we'll have a truly distributed energy generating grid.

Tesla beats deadline, switches on gigantic Australian battery array
Musk wins his bet, so South Australia will have to pay for it after all.
    ...
The bet was made in March, when Musk tweeted to an incredulous Cannon-Brookes that Tesla could build and install a massive lithium-ion battery installation in "100 days or it is free."

China Has Launched the World’s First All-Electric Cargo Ship

China launched an all-electric cargo ship that supposedly takes 2 hours to charge and has a range of 50 miles at it's top speed of 8 mph. While this sounds cool the irony of the situation is it's going to be used to haul coal to power generating stations along the Pearl River. It's going to lower their price for hauling the coal, but it's helping to further pollute the air with that coal.

Elon Musk’s Massive Australian Battery Chalks Up Another Record

Just weeks after being activated, Elon Musk’s battery in South Australia is claiming another world record for the time it took to spring into action following a power outage: the battery bounded into action just 140 milliseconds after a power plant in a neighboring state suffered a failure, preventing a blackout from affecting numerous homes in nearby towns and cities.

China Is Building a Solar Power Highway

China is building roadways with solar panels underneath that may soon have the ability to charge cars wirelessly and digitally assist automated vehicles. The building technique involves transparent concrete over a layer of solar panels.

How Bill Gates Aims to Clean Up the Planet

Bill Gates has teamed up with a physicist and oil sands magnate for a project in which CO2 is extracted from the air and converted to clean diesel and petrol. In what is being described as "mechanizing photosynthesis," arrays of giant fans are used to extract pure CO2, which can then be synthesized into a usable mixture through a process called Air to Fuels (A2F).

Tesla is helping South Australia build what will be the world’s largest virtual power plant
Installation is planned for 50,000 homes across the state over the next four years

The South Australian government will build what it says is the world’s largest virtual power plant by rolling out solar panels and Tesla batteries to at least 50,000 homes. Installation is planned over the next four years, and those households will combine to create the 250MW virtual power plant. Energy generated from the solar panels will be stored in the Tesla batteries, and any excess energy will be fed back to the grid, which will be centrally controlled and provide energy to the rest of the state when required.

First Tesla Semis leave Nevada Gigafactory, filled with batteries
Tesla doing what it does best: creating ways to serve tangential markets.
    ...
The Semi has ambitious specs that haven't been vetted in the real world yet—Musk promised that the top-line trucks would have a 500-mile range and an 80,000lb maximum load. He also claimed that the trucks would be able to hit 65mph at a 5-percent grade. So testing the trucks on a route between Sparks, Nevada and Fremont, California is clearly ideal for a company honing a product for buyers.

Laden with heavy batteries, the trucks will make their way from 4,400ft in altitude at Sparks to 7,200ft at the place where I-80 crosses Donner Summit, before the trucks ride the route down to sea level. On the return trip, when the electric trucks have to gain 7,200 ft in altitude, they'll be empty and lighter.

The route is also roughly 240 miles each way—a round-trip journey would come in just under the 500 miles of range that the trucks supposedly have.

World’s First Electrified Road for Charging Vehicles Opens in Sweden

Stockholm is now home to the world’s first public road that can recharge the batteries of cars and trucks. Consisting of two tracks of rail, the system only provides current when there is a car driving over it and is capable of calculating each vehicle’s energy consumption.
