ASUS AREZ Radeon Graphics Cards Production Has Started – No Features Lost In Transition From ROG [Updated]

Faced with this condition from NVIDIA, ASUS decided it is going to be launching a new brand that is dedicated to AMD Radeon cards: AREZ. MSI has already removed their GAMING branding from AMD Radeon cards (and received significant backlash for it) but it looks like ASUS’s way might be going down a different and more palatable route: creating a separate identity for Radeon cards. An identity that is just as gaming centric as the ROG brand.

Scott Herkelman Confirms NVIDIA GPP Tactics

Scott Herkelman, Vice President & GM Radeon Gaming at AMD, has been getting a bit higher profile this week. We dropped you a bit of his backstory earlier this week and how AMD is launching a marketing campaign focused directly on NVIDIA's GPP action. Scott was in London this week working with AMD resellers and he posted something very interesting on Twitter that goes straight to the heart of our article entitled, "GeForce Partner Program Impacts Consumer Choice." If you have doubts that NVIDIA GPP is real, hear what he has to say:

Six First-Generation AMD Ryzen Processor Models Reach EOL

With the April 19 introduction of four new second-generation Ryzen "Pinnacle Ridge" desktop processor SKUs, namely the 2700X, 2700, 2600X, and 2600; AMD is retiring six first-generation "Summit Ridge" SKUs from its lineup, according to a Guru3D report. Six SKUs have been marked EOL (end of life), meaning retailers can no longer order them from AMD. They can sell their remaining inventory, and AMD will honor full product warranties and aftersales support, to end users.

Among the retired SKUs are the previous-generation flagship Ryzen 7 1800X, 1700X, and 1700 (non-X); Ryzen 5 1600X, 1400, and the Ryzen 3 1200. As revealed in its product stack slide, the 2700X currently replaces both the 1800X and 1700X as the "8-core high performance" SKU, followed by the 2700 as the "8-core high efficiency" SKU, which replaces the 1700. The 2600X and 2600 succeed the 1600X and 1600, respectively. The Ryzen 5 1400 finds itself replaced by the GPU-equipped Ryzen 5 2400G "Raven Ridge" APU, and the entry-level Ryzen 3 1200 by the sub-$100 Ryzen 3 2200G.

AMD Invoking Sales Ban for ASRock Phantom Gaming Graphics cards in Europe

ASRock a few weeks ago in April, launched its Phantom series AMD Radeon graphics cards. From what we understand some cards are available in the Asia region right now, however aside from that, it all remains silent. And there might be a reason for that, Phantom Gaming cards may not be sold in Europe.

So as it looks now, in Europe, Phantom Gaming graphics cards may not be sold. My always friendly colleague from Toms Hardware noticed there is no EU availability, they got their hands on a card. An ASRock employee noticed this, and that representative was surprised. He reported that AMD is apparently not allowing ASRock to sell their cards here in the EU, and maybe even USA? That last bit is speculation though I did some searches, you'll not find these cards in either region.

    Here's what ASRock replied:

"The problem for me is that AMD has not agreed us to sell in EU, that is really a pity."

So like, we just had the NVIDIA GPP program end yesterday right?, let that sink in for a minute okay, AMD is invoking a regional sales ban for certain brands in favor for others?

    O desmentido:
No, AMD Is Not Banning Newest Radeon GPU Partner From Selling In Europe
    ...
ASRock got into the GPU game with cryptocurrency mining in mind. Indeed, it was initially reported that they were launching mining-based SKUs. What I've been told -- and I confirmed this twice over the phone and again via email -- is that in Europe, ASRock has decided not to sell Phantom Gaming graphics cards commercially. They won't appear in online or brick-and-mortal PC retail shops. They are only intended for miners and industrial use. Furthermore, the minimum order quantity for these customers is 500 pieces.
Clearly this contradicts comments from the ASRock representative who spoke to Tom's Hardware Germany.

GPP Creates Another AMD Exclusive Hardware Line

Despite the fact that the disgusting GeForce Partner Program was killed off by NVIDIA earlier this month, it seems the effects are still being felt. PC World is reporting that MSI is launching a new AMD exclusive brand dubbed the "MECH 2." The article states that the card appears to slot in between the affordable Armor line, and MSI's high-end "gaming" line of GPUs, and the RX and RX 580 MECH 2 cards should be launching in July.
Makes you wonder how long GPP was in the works before we found out about it. For several companies to come up with all new branding for cards has to take more time than the 2 months it has been since @Kyle_Bennet broke the story. Depressing that we are still seeing its effects.

    ASUS AREZ No More

If you were an NVIDIA GPP denier, we can understand that. Crazy how all these coincidences keep showing up that have nothing to do with NVIDIA seizing the brands of its AIBs with its now defunct GPP program. I do however very much like Legit Review's take on it.

No, ASUS Hasn’t Killed Off It’s AREZ Branding

A lot of big publications are writing about the death of ASUS AREZ as announced by an official-looking twitter account a while back. There’s only one problem though: the account in question is fake and is using branding images that WhyCry and I created a while back.
