    NVIDIA Big Pascal Taped Out - GP100 Silicon


    Over at the B3D forums users claim that big Pascal has taped out, and is on TSMC 16nm and the target release date for this GPU is Q1'16. The product would be released as GP100 and will be the succesor to the GM200 series GPUs.

    A tape-out simply means that there is an initial engineering sample batch for internal testing purposes released. With the pascal architecture Nvidia as well will make a move towards HBM memory (stacked on die memory), however they will jump right towards generation v2 of HBM, meaning they could inject up-to 32GB pf memory on the GPU.

    It is estimated that ther shader processor count for big pascal is anything from 4500 towards 6000 units. Big Pascal made on TSMC's 16 nanometer silicon fab process with a release in Q1 2016.

    Time to revive this thread. My info says big Pascal has taped out, and is on TSMC 16nm (Unknown if this is FF or FF+, though I suspect it is FF+). Target release date is Q1'16. This is a change from Kepler and Maxwell where the smallest chip (GK107 and GM107 respectively) taped out first. Maybe the experience with 20nm was enough for NV to go back to their usual big die first strategy. Given the huge gains in performance compared to 28nm, and the fact that the 16nm process is both immature and quite expensive, I suspect the die size may be a bit smaller than what we've seen with GK110/GM200.

    entretanto a nvidia não vai lançar nenhuma gráfica com HBM memory antes do 1Q de 2016 para fazer concorrência às novas da AMD?

    É que é mesmo! Já é o canhão que é, tem o preço que tem e mesmo assim as pessoas compram à mesma...
    E para se dar ao "luxo" de baixar para esses valores, nem imagino a margem de lucro que têm quando estão ao preço "normal"

    Se o mercado fosse só feito de entusiastas ou "connaisseurs", até que podia ser.

    A questão é que a maioria dos consumidores não faz a mínima que "Grenada" é apenas, um refresh de "Hawaii" com mais e melhor memória GDDR5 e alguma - tímida -, melhoria nos TDP; a esmagadora maioria dos consumidores só sabe que na prática, a R9 390 tem preço e performance semelhantes à GTX 970 e que a R9 390X embora mais cara que a GTX 970, é ligeiramente mais rápida em compensação, e mais barata que a GTX 980. E não me admirava nada que os "8GB GDDR5" escritos nas caixas das R9 contrastastando com os "apenas" "4GB" das GTX 970/980, incline os consumidores indecisos para o lado da "red team". A juntar a isto, ainda existe o mercado OEM. Por isso, não, se a AMD não acabou até hoje, também não creio acabasse se a nVIDIA baixasse a GTX 970 para os €280-300.

    Quanto à Pascal, só para 2016 garantido.

    Nvidia Pascal GP100 GPU Flagship Will Pack A 4096-bit Memory Bus And Four 8-Hi HBM2 Stacks

    Nvidia’s big Pascal GPU code named GP100 will feature a massive 4096bit bus and four HBM2 stacks each up to 8-Hi. The upcoming Nvidia flagship Pascal chip set to debut on TSMC’s 16nm FinFET process later next year. We have confirmed with our sources that the GPU will be made with two different variations of stacked HBM2 solutions, however both will feature a massive 4096bit memory interface just like AMD’s flagship Fiji GPU launched last month.


    NVIDIA Pascal GPU To Feature 17 Billion Transistors and 32 GB HBM2 VRAM – Full CUDA Compute Architecture Arrives in 2016

    NVIDIA will be introducing their next generation Pascal GPU in 2016 which will introduce several new and key technologies to the green team. The Pascal GPU will be the successor to the current generation Maxwell GPU and from the looks of it, it is going to be a beast of a chip. Featuring the latest HBM2 and 16nm FinFET based designs, Pascal GPUs will leverage NVIDIA’s dominance in both the consumer and corporate world.

    NVIDIA Pascal GPU Might Feature 17 Billion Transistors, Almost Twice The Transistors of Fiji
    In an exclusive report published by Fudzilla, the site reveals that NVIDIA’s next generation Pascal GPU will feature 17 billion transistors crammed inside its core. Currently, the flagship GM200 core found on the GeForce GTX Titan X comes with 8.0 Billion transistors while the competitor, the Radeon R9 Fury X has a total of 8.9 Billion transistors inside its Fiji GPU. The 17 Billion transistors on the Pascal GPU are twice the transistors found on the GM200 Maxwell and the Fiji XT GPU core which is literally insane. Pascal is meant to be NVIDIA’s next high performance, compute focused graphics architecture which will be found on all market segments that will include GeForce, Quadro and even Tesla. Based on TSMC’s 16nm process node, NVIDIA’s Pascal GPU will not only feature the best performance in graphics but also the most power efficient architecture ever made by a GPU manufacturer.
    It was revealed a few days ago that NVIDIA’s Pascal GP100 chip has already been taped out on TSMC’s 16nm FinFET process, last month. This means that we can see a launch of these chips as early as Q2 2016. Given that the transistor count is correct, we can expect a incremental performance increase from Pascal across the range of graphics cards that will be introduced.
    TSMC’s 16FF+ (FinFET Plus) technology can provide above 65 percent higher speed, around 2 times the density, or 70 percent less power than its 28HPM technology. Comparing with 20SoC technology, 16FF+ provides extra 40% higher speed and 60% power saving. By leveraging the experience of 20SoC technology, TSMC 16FF+ shares the same metal backend process in order to quickly improve yield and demonstrate process maturity for time-to-market value.


    The 17 Billion transistors are an insane amount but what’s more insane is the amount of VRAM that is going to be featured on the new cards. With HBM2, NVIDIA gets the leverage to feature far more memory than what’s currently allocated on HBM1 cards (4 GB HBM on Fury X, Fury, Nano, Fury X2). With HBM2, NVIDIA gets access to more denser chips that will result in cards with 16 GB and up to 32 GB of HBM memory across a massive 4096bit memory interface which will dominate the next high-resolution 4K and 8K gaming panels.Although they may have to wait a little bit longer thanks to AMD’s priority access to HBM2 with SK Hynix, the makers of HBM. With 8Gb per DRAM die and 2 Gbps speed per pin, we get approximately 256 GB/s bandwidth per HBM2 stack. With four stacks in total, we will get 1 TB/s bandwidth on NVIDIA’s GP100 flagship Pascal which is twice compared to the 512 GB/s on AMD’s Fiji cards and three times that of the 980 Ti’s 334GB/s.
    The Pascal GPU would also introduce NVLINK which is the next generation Unified Virtual Memory link with Gen 2.0 Cache coherency features and 5 – 12 times the bandwidth of a regular PCIe connection. This will solve many of the bandwidth issues that high performance GPUs currently face. One of the latest things we learned about NVLINK is that it will allow several GPUs to be connected in parallel, whether in SLI for gaming or for professional usage. Jen-Hsun specifically mentioned that instead of 4 cards, users will be able to use 8 GPUs in their PCs for gaming and professional purposes.
    With Pascal GPU, NVIDIA will return to the HPC market with new Tesla products. Maxwell, although great in all regards was deprived of necessary FP64 hardware and focused only on FP32 performance. This meant that the chip was going to stay away from HPC markets while NVIDIA offered their year old Kepler based cards as the only Tesla based options. Pascal will not only improve FP64 performance but also feature mixed precision that allows NVIDIA cards to compute at 16-bit at double the accuracy of FP32. This means that the cards will enable three tiers of compute at FP16, FP32 and FP64. NVIDIA’s far future Volta GPU will further leverage the compute architecture as it is already planned to be part of the SUMMIT and Sierra super computers that feature over 150 PetaFlops of compute performance and launch in 2017 which indicates the launch of Volta just a year after Pascal for the HPC market.

    NVIDIA Unveils Pascal GPU: 16GB of memory, 1TB/s Bandwidth

    At the Japanese edition of NVIDIA GTC (GPU Technology Conference), NVIDIA finally revealed details behind its 2016 graphics architecture, codenamed Pascal. The architecture was launched at the main GTC event, which took place in San Jose on March 17th, 2015 (watch Jen-Hsun Huang’s GTC keynote here). GTC Japan was hosted by Marc Hamilton.

    As always, the Pascal GPU will be manufactured in Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), using the brand new 16nm FinFET process. This process is much more than a simple number, since it marks the shift from planar, 2D transistors to the FinFET i.e. 3D transistors. This shift required that the engineers make lot of changes in the thought process, and should result in significant power savings.

    But that is just the beginning, as Pascal will bring support for up to 32GB of HBM2 memory. However, the actual products based on Pascal will launch with 16GB HBM2 memory, and more memory will depend solely on memory vendors such as SK.Hynix and Samsung. What is changing the most is bandwidth. Both the Kepler-based Tesla (K40) and Maxwell-based M4/M40 featured 12GB of GDDR5 and achieved up to 288GB/s of memory bandwidth. Those 16GB HBM SDRAM (packed in four 4GB HBM2 chips) will bring 1TB/s in bandwidth, while internally the GPU surpasses the 2TB/s barrier.

    Gostaria se acham razoável nos próximos meses comprar uma VGA equivalente a uma GTX 970 ou se mais vale esperar pelas primeiras pascal.

    Eu não acredito que a nova gama de placas venha arrasar as actuais em termos de performance a não ser que tenham preços astronómicos. Ninguém quer desvalorizar o produto anterior dessa forma, e pelo que já li e conversas absurdas que já ouvi acho que as pessoas estão convencidas que quando saírem as Pascal as 970 GTX vão custar 80€. :\

    Enfim voltando à questão é razoável acreditar que uma entrada gama pascal seja equivalente a uma GTX 970?

    Se quiseres ver apenas a parte das 1080, é a partir dos 53.43:



    Core a 2100/Mems a 10000!



    Reviews ainda não, talvez a partir de 25 de Maio.

    Áhhh e outra coisa, também apresentou as 1070 a 379$ como sendo mais rápidas que a Titan X!
