    Default Battlefield 4

Battlefield 4 is real, beta arriving Autumn 2013

Yesterday a banner ad for Medal of Honor: Warfighter pre-orders let slip mention of a Battlefield 4 beta. That banner was swiftly pulled. Today, EA are letting everything hang out. VG247 spotted more mention of bonus BF4 beta access in the latest Medal of Honor multiplayer trailer. Yesterday a tweet from the official Battlefield account warned that nothing is official until it’s appeared on Battlefield.com. Oh wait. Here it is. Battlefield 4 is real.

“The team at DICE is hard at work on the next entry in the Battlefield series,” reads the message from the team at DICE. “To ensure access to the exclusive Battlefield 4 beta, shooter fans can pre-order Medal of Honor Warfighter today.”

But what about Battlefield 4? Tell us more about Battlefield 4. Go on. “While there is no further Battlefield 4 news at this point – remember, if you don’t see it published here, it’s just rumor and speculation.”

Come not even a little bit? Show us a bit of concept art. A gun render. ANYTHING.

“We’re not ready to talk about Battlefield 4 yet – in the meantime, we hope you will continue to enjoy Battlefield 3 and all the Battlefield 3 Premium content still to come.”

Man. I guess we’ll have to make do with this trailer for Medal of Honor: Warfighter. Battlefield 4 beta access comes with the limited edition, which can be pre-ordered from Origin. But what would you like to see from Battlefield 4?

Battlefield 4 sticking to modern warfare

Battlefield 4 will be set in modern times, DICE general manager Karl Magnus Troedsson revealed at GDC Europe today. The game, which was announced with no pomp last month, will have a beta sometime next year, but little else has been revealed. However, with a lag time of six years between Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 3, why did the studio go with Battlefield 4 so quickly instead of heading back to Bad Company?

"There's a lot of things inspiring us as to how the franchise will move on. Everything from fans' feedback, to market research and, of course, what we want to build ourselves. It's not just one single thing," said Troedsson, continuing with a hint of sarcasm. "And, yes, I know Battlefield 4 is probably the most creative name we ever could come up with. I can't comment any more on that game because it's all secret."

However, he did go on to say, "We still want to stay in this genre, the modern day as it is. We feel this is a place we can be and continue with the series. Battlefield 4 can live in this space and be very successful."

Hinting, in conclusion, "That doesn't mean there might not be a Bad Company game again in the future."

Possible Battlefield 4 Announcement at GDC Teased

It’s no secret that Battlefield 4 is on the horizon. The Battlefield 4 beta was given out as a pre-order bonus to Medal of Honor: Warfighter early adopters before DICE announced it would be opened up to a wider audience. This week also saw the release of the last DLC expansion, titled ‘End Game’, for Battlefield 3.

So it comes as no surprise that EA would want to make sure that BF4 remains a prominent fixture as the time for GDC draws closer. Today PSLS was sent a save the date card for an EA event which, judging by the artwork and coloring on the card, seems to hint at an official reveal for Battlefield 4 during GDC.

The invite, which was also reported on by IGN and is shown above, features the prominent background art and color palette that has become synonymous with the Battlefield franchise, and states that the press event will take place in a movie theater. Given the recent announcement of the PS4, it seems highly likely that this will be an event for EA to officially announce the game, especially because they said they would reveal some games before E3.

Whether the game will be current gen, multigeneration (our bet), or next gen remains to be seen, but you can be certain that PSLS will be there on March 26th to give you all the details from EA’s event as well as the rest of GDC.

GDC is scheduled to run from March 25th-29th in San Francisco.

    Thumbs down BF4

Full Battlefield 4 promo image suggests it’s sticking with the modern military theme

Official invites for Battlefield 4′s GDC unveiling poured in last week, plopping an unfocused Abrams guardian right next to the RSVP email. Now All Games Beta has fished out the entirety of the invite’s background image, which offers a few more hints on the fourth ‘fields’ setting.

Adorned with a simple Battlefield 4 logo using the same font as the last game, the image shows a soldier lugging what looks like a silenced sniper rifle, a pistol, fatigues, and a smoldering expression of determination. He’s the impromptu grand marshal of a parade trio of modern military vehicles in the background: a pair of LAVs and the aforementioned Abrams. Bringing up the rear is a rain-spattered cityscape.

We can probably assume from the image that the upcoming FPS continues Battlefield 3′s usage of modern military hardware and weapons with an emphasis on urban combat. Nothing is set in stone, though—we’ll get the solid details when GDC rolls out next week. Who knows? It could just be an artful take on a man running to catch a bus. In the rain. Armed for bears.
